Searching for Baby Names? Unusual Name Ideas for Children

We wanted names for our children that were unusual but not too wacky. To help do this we applied the “could they be a doctor or a surfer” test to all the names we came up with - it's a useful bench mark. 

My name is Kate, and whilst I like it I also know many other Kate's, Katie's, Katherine's etc. So I was keen for my children to have a name that was unlikely to be the same as someone else in their school year or friendship group.

When you are trying to find an unusual name, think about pronunciation and spelling, and always be sure to Google the meaning, to check you are comfortable with it. Think about what a name might be shortened to as well and check you like it. We often shorten my son's name, but sometimes people spell it in a different way to how we do, which can be a little annoying!
